Why Oven Door Glass Goes Brown
Oven doors are made of two or three panes with a gap between them. Grease vapour gets into that gap through the vents at the top and bottom of the door, bakes on, and leaves the brown, streaky haze that no amount of cleaning from the outside can shift. Household cleaners only reach the inner and outer faces.
Our technician removes the door, separates the panes and cleans each surface with a non-caustic solution. On most models the inner pane lifts out once the door is off; on some built-in ovens the door frame has to be unscrewed. Either way the door is rebuilt and refitted on the same visit and checked for a tight seal.
If the glass has already been scratched by scouring or a blade, cleaning will not remove the marks, and we will tell you that before we start rather than after.

Can the brown staining between the panes be removed?
Yes, as long as it is baked-on grease rather than scratching. It is cleared once the panes are separated, which is part of every deep clean we do.
Will you damage the door taking it apart?
No. Oven doors are designed to be removed for cleaning, and the panes are held by clips or a screwed frame. We rebuild and test the door before we leave.
Do you clean the glass on range cookers and AGAs?
Yes. Range cooker doors follow the same method. AGA doors are different and are covered on our AGA cleaning page.
Why does the staining come back?
Vapour enters through the door vents during cooking, so some build-up over time is normal. Cleaning the inner face regularly slows it down, and a full clean every six to twelve months resets it.
Can I book the glass on its own?
Yes, from €40. Most customers add a hob or book the full oven clean while we are there, but the door on its own is fine.
