Hobs and Extractors: What We Do
Hobs take the direct spills, and the extractor above them takes the vapour. Both build up a layer of cooked-on grease that household sprays spread around rather than remove. We treat them with the same non-caustic degreaser used on the oven, then lift the residue off rather than scrubbing it.
On gas hobs the pan supports, burner caps and crowns come off and are cleaned separately, and the burner ports are cleared so the flame is even again. On ceramic and induction hobs the glass is cleaned without abrasives, so the surface is not dulled. Solid plate hobs are degreased and the plates reblacked where needed.
For the extractor, the mesh filters are removed and degreased, the underside and casing are cleaned, and the light covers wiped. If the filters are the disposable paper or carbon type they cannot be cleaned, and we will fit replacements if you have them.

Questions People Ask
Can you clean an induction hob without scratching it?
Yes. Induction and ceramic glass are cleaned with non-abrasive pads and a degreaser, then polished. We never use blades or scouring pads on glass.
What about the extractor filters?
Metal mesh filters are removed and degreased. Paper or carbon filters cannot be cleaned and should be replaced; if you have spares we fit them.
Do I need to book the oven as well?
No, but most people do. Hob and extractor cleans are priced as add-ons from €45 each, and it is one visit rather than two.
Will the gas burners work properly afterwards?
Yes. Clearing the burner ports is part of the clean, and we light each burner afterwards to check the flame is even.
How long does it take?
Around 20 to 30 minutes for a hob and the same for a hood, on top of the oven clean if booked together.
